Course aims
The aim of this course is to acquaint students with basic principles, methods and techniques of sociological research, including the collection, analysis and interpretation of data and research design.
Brief description of the course
The course will give an overview of the basic principles, requirements and terms of scientific research in social sciences. Different methodological paradigms and fields of studies emanating from them will be explained. Students will be given an overview of different research designs and basic phases of research, including posing research questions and hypothesis, gathering material, data analyses and interpretation, delivering results, making conclusions, etc.The course consists of lectures and independent work with literature.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to formulate sociological problems relating to the specialty and to analyse and evaluate different solutions;
- is able to collect information independently by using appropriate methods and means and to interpret it critically and creatively;
- has ability to critically evaluate their own research, as well as research performed by practitioners or scholars.
