Course aims
Support the understanding of the research field in cross-cultural psychology, acquire knowledge of the methodology and main findings in the field, get an overview of cross-cultural psychology in practice, and develop a relativistic attitude toward other cultures.

Only those students who have the bachelor of psychology degree or the equivalent may be registered for this subject.
Brief description of the course
This course examines the main definitions, approaches and frameworks in the field of cross-cultural psychology, and discusses the methodology of cross-cultural research. Looking into relationship between culture and psychological processes, students will get acquinted with study results on similarities and differences across cultures in relation to motivation and social behavior, intelligence and personality, cognitions, emotions and values. Moreover processes and outcomes of cross-cultural interactions will be reviewed, and main practical applications in relation to different groups of global travellers will be derived.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to rise above his/her cultural framework and evaluate different psychological theories and research results from the comparative perspective;
- understands the main implications of culture on psychological processes, and is able to account for cultural differences when analysing practical situations.
