Course aims
- to introduce the existential-analytical concept of motivation
- to analyze the given facts of human existence that are confronted in a motivational process
- to introduce the components of well-being from the existential-analytical point of view
- to analyze the impact of meaning and meaninglessness on one’s wellbeing
- to introduce the basic concepts V. E. Frankl’s theory about meaning and purpose in life
- to outline the techniques and practices of finding meaning
Brief description of the course
The course provides a brief overview of the existential-analytical approach to wellbeing and covers four major topics: understanding motivation as a dialogue with the environment; the theory of fundamental motivations; living with ‘inner consent’ as a prerequisite for wellbeing; understanding meaning and purpose in their relation to wellbeing, as well as to finding meaning in one’s life.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the existential-analytical concept of motivation;
- is able to analyze a motivational process in its relation to the given facts of human existence;
- knows the prerequisites of well-being from the existential-analytical point of view;
- understands the relations between meaning/meaninglessness and wellbeing
- knows the basic concepts of the logotherapeutic approach to meaning
- can implement techniques and methods aimed at improving wellbeing in cases of loss of meaning
