Course aims
To give an overview of different areas of mathematics and its applications.
To provide experience in working with mathematical sources and typesetting mathematical texts using typesetting system LaTeX.
To provide experience in public speaking in the form of seminars.

Brief description of the course
An introductory subject to give an overview of mathematics and its applications to students from the study programme Mathematics, Mathematical Economics and Data Analysis.
To learn typesetting mathematical texts using typesetting system LaTeX.
To learn typesetting mathematical texts using typesetting system LaTeX.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has gained an overview of different applications and research areas of mathematics;
- has become acquainted with the career paths of mathematicians and mathematics practitioners;
- can find motivation in learning;
- has basic skills in formatting of a simple mathematical text;
- has elementary skills in typesetting system LaTeX;
- gets public speaking experience.
