Course aims
To give deeper overview on the basic knowledge in chemistry, including calculation tasks, reaction mechanisms and the principles of the chemical nomenclature.
Brief description of the course
The classes of chemical substances and their relations. Writing and naming chemical equations. Interpreting the information obtained from the periodic table of the elements. The basic principles of reaction mechanisms. Percentage calculations, molar calculations, calculations used in laboratory works, exercises in physical chemistry. pH and its calculation. Complex equations.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows how to resolve tasks in the following fields – percentage and concentration, redox equations, calculations by chemical equations, basic exercises in physical chemistry, molar calculations, complex tasks;
- knows how to interpret the information obtained from the periodic table of the elements;
- knows the relations between the various classes of chemical substances;
- knows the basic principles of the chemical nomenclature and terminology and is capable of using this knowledge.

- knows how to interpret the information obtained from the periodic table of the elements;
