Course aims
To provide an overview of the main theoretical approaches, basic concepts and development of the subject in world economic geography. To develop students' written and oral self-expression skills through the preparation and presentation of written homework assignments on the topic. To broaden the student's horizons regarding global population, economic and environmental problems. To acquire the ability to use international electronic databases.
Brief description of the course
Overview of basic concepts and different theoretical approaches in world economic geography resp. world economic geography resp. world economic geography. Theoretical starting points and trends in world economic geography; global and regional demographic and population geographic trends/patterns, especially considering the global ecological and (geo)political trends of recent years; spatial distribution of resources and economic activity in the world economy; geography of the world economy, especially food and energy problems (fossil versus “green” energy); globalization and regionalization.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has capability to analyze theoretical origin of world ecology and political geography.
- is able to analyze the theoretical foundations of world economic and political geography;
- can define and generalize world economic and political trends in the geographical context of processes.
