Course aims
Major. To provide an overview of the terminology and role of environmental monitoring.
Brief description of the course
Definition of environmental monitoring, targets and organisation. Types of environmental monitoring: geophysical (meteorological, hydrological, radiation etc.), geochemical (air pollution, chemical content of precipitation and inland waters, soils), biological (plant cover and fauna) and integrated monitoring. Existing monitoring systems in Estonia, their role, the networks of observation stations and usage of data are discussed in more detail.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
