Course aims
Major subject for IT students and minor subject for other students. The objective of the course is to give theoretical knowledge and practical skills for set up and maintenance of computers.
Brief description of the course
Computers motherboard, items on it, preparation for computer assembly. Different processors and sockets, installation of CPU. Types of memory modules, parity check, installation of memory modules. Hard drives, construction and installation. Power supply, power cables, connecting hardware components to power supply. Safety precautions on computer assembly. Assembly of PC, installation of graphics adapter and others. CMOS, parallel and serial interface, connecting devices, port. Setting up hardware for conflict-free operation (selecting ports, IRQ and DMA). Installation and configuration of operating system. Installing modems. Hardware for computer networks. Preparation of network cables, measurement of their parameters.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- Teab ja tunneb peamisi riistvara hooldamisel ja arvuti komplekteerimisel kasutatavaid töövõtteid ja –vahendeid
- Oskab eristada staatilist ja antistaatilist keskkonda ja teab staatilise elektri negatiivset mõju elektroonikaseadistele
- Oskab iseseisvalt teostada tüüpjuhtudel riistavara hooldust ja testimist
- Oskab praktiliselt komplekteerida arvutikomplekti
- Oskab valmistada ja testida võrgukaableid
- Oskab paigaldada ja turvata traadita arvutivõrke
