Course aims
The course is aimed at those learners whose Russian language proficiency is at A2 level. A supporting subject aimed at teaching Russian through reading and analysing texts, developing a grammatical system, enriching active and passive vocabulary. Student acquires proficiency of Russian that in the main part corresponds to B1 (intermediate) level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Brief description of the course
Integrated developing of all four foreign language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) pursuing the content of B1 scale of CEFR. Topics: different cultures and nations. Traditions and customs. Literature and its types. Famous writers. Music in different countries. Music styles. Classical art vs. contemporary art. Dance through times. Physical culture and sports. Importance of hobby education in contemporary society. Media: journalism and television. Language and communication. Work with text. Discussions and arguments. Making oral summaries of texts. Expressing personal experiences in writing.
Independent work
Individual work involves fulfilling home assignments, homereading, work with dictionaries, preparation for individual and group presentations both in oral and written form.
Learning outcomes in the course
Student:
understands the main information in clear regular speech or in radio or television;
understands texts that consist of more common words and phrases;
is able to converse on topics that are familiar and interesting to him/her;
can apply grammatical rules;
is able to justify and explain his/her opinions orally and in writing;
is able to give an overview of the areas related to his/her specialisation.
Student has an opportunity to pass a B1 level proficiency exam
