Course aims

To provide an overview of the themes of embroidery and the subject syllabus in schools of general education, to acquire the terminology, technology and skill to provide a contemporary and creative output, to acquired knowledge and skills for acquiring a theoretical and practical basis for teaching.

Brief description of the course

The role of the topic of embroidery in the syllabus of handicraft of schools of general education. The didactics of teaching, teaching aids and making them. Selecting materials and implements. Study of patterns. Technologies of various surfaces, designing and executing embroidery. Ethnographic embroidery and techniques. Selection of technological methods and practical works according to the level of difficulty.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has a systematic overview of the topic of embroidery;
- is familiar with the classification of embroidery stitches, the techniques and terminology of ornamental stitches, etc.
- is able to plan and carry out work from an idea to a product, find a contemporary and creative way of applying the acquired knowledge and skills, compile a study portfolio, present and analyse the output of practical creative work.
