Course aims

To give an overview of the theoretical foundations and application principles of family therapy and solution-focused psychotherapy in arts therapies.

Brief description of the course

The trends of background theories of arts therapies are addressed through the following topics: the concept of psychotherapy and description of basic techniques, general treatment factors, client groups and scientific foundation. The preparation of a therapist. Therapist’s role. Therapy process, its analysis. Ethical aspects in psychotherapy.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
• Basic knowledge about theoretical and scientific foundations and basic concepts of family therapy and solution-focused psychotherapy and principles of application in arts therapies;
• Professional requirements for a psychotherapist;
• Ability to distinguish between different psychotherapy approaches and understand their opportunities and limitations in arts therapies.
