Course aims
To give a theoretical overview of the basic techniques used in music therapy and create an opportunity for the acquisition of knowledge about and skills in the methods and basic techniques of music therapy through experiential learning.
Brief description of the course
Methods of music therapy. Principal techniques and methods, theoretical treatments and practical applications of receptive music therapy. An analysis of pieces of music from therapeutic aspect. Supporting techniques and methods of active music therapy, their theoretical treatment and practical application. Techniques and methods of therapeutic voice work, theoretical approach and practical application. Combining techniques. Warm-up techniques. Pair and group techniques.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knowledge about the principal techniques of receptive and active music therapy and therapeutic voice work and their applications;
- basic skills in choosing suitable music and using musical instruments and voice as well as therapeutic supportive techniques in a therapeutic relationship;
- readiness for compiling and purposefully applying independent therapeutic exercises;
- ability to create contact with a client by means of music and interact with the client non-verbally and verbally;
- ability to apply specialist knowledge to plan a music therapy session;
- ability to independently conduct purposeful and reasonable music therapeutic exercises in a small group
