Course aims
To give an overview of contemporary trends in art therapy, methods and techniques of working with children and adolescents and carry out study trips to introduce main institutions providing art therapy to children and adolescents.

Brief description of the course
During the course the following topics will be covered:
1. Understanding children’s development through artistic activity,
2. Art therapy and other creative fields and guiding a child’s/adolescent’s development,
3. Special features of art therapy targeted at children,
4. Special features of art therapy targeted at adolescents,
5. Art therapy in different environments,
6. Special issues: learning difficulties, behaviour disorders, eating disorders, aggressiveness, child’s mourning etc.,
7. Ethical issuesQuestions: what are a child’s needs and how to support a child’s development through creative activities, a pupil with special needs and creative activities, what is the environment supporting the development of a child’s creativity and creative freedom like.
Lectures are carried out in the form of seminars. At the end of the course each student compiles an individual portfolio.

As the outcome of the course:
Students know different stages of children and adolescents’ development, their reflection through manual activity and how to support children and adolescents’ development through art therapies;
They can select and work out activities meeting the needs of children/adolescents and carry them out with children;
As therapists they can give meaning to their activity according to the theoretical material covered by the course;
They are able to analyse children’s development through manual activities and find opportunities to support it.
