Course aims

Develop the students' musical literacy (using different Clefs) and understanding of the harmonic background behind one-voice tonal music (in writing and on the piano).

Brief description of the course

In the previous semester Musical listening skills) trained listening skills application using the traditional staff notation on given and self-created one-voice dictations. Writing by ear of 4- and 8-bar dictations in different clefs in different harmonic modes and with modifications. Training of writing intervals and chords by ear. All activity is supported by the small groups activity on the piano practically and with independent training by the students (guided practicum).

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to write by ear and create 4- and 8-bar dictations with harmonic mode modifications in different clefs (G, F, C) taking into account the underlying harmonies;
- is able to apply in this context intervals and chords in written form and on the piano practically.
