Course aims

To introduce the recorder and the resources for using the instrument in music education. Becoming acquainted with the history of the instrument and its repertoire and the basics of playing technique.

Brief description of the course

Exercises to develop finger- and breathing technique and articulation. Playing simple melodies (songs for children, folk music, mediaeval pieces, renaissance dances etc., all of them also by ear). Playing two and three part ensemble pieces to develop specific skills of ensemble playing and intonation. Playing the scales during lessons (thirds and triplets with different articulations).

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
The student knows and uses basic technical skills, notation for recorder and is able to play melodies.
