Course aims
To establish ground for learning basic movements of Estonian folk dance and knowing terminology of folk dances
Brief description of the course
The subject consists of three basic parts. During the 1st part students acquire basic movements of Estonian folk dance and develop body discipline. 2nd part deals with traditions and connections between folk traditions and dance, the essence, collection and research of Estonian folk dance tradition. In the 3rd part students get acquainted with the typology of Estonian folk dances, acquire and analyse dances of different types. Attention is paid to dance diagrams and their historical development.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- performs the basic movements of Estonian folk dance;
- knows different Estonian folk dances;
- knows about the research on national traditions and folk dance;
- can understand the processes in indigineous cultural heritage.
