Course aims
The aim of the course is for the student to know how to make critical analysis on mediatexts; ability to see the structure of the texts and skills to complete texts. Main news journalism terms and principles are introduced to students in theory and practice.
Brief description of the course
There are seminars where students must be active in participating.
During the semester students will do several homeworks and group works:
First homeowork (group work): selecting different given texts into different parts of the newspaper, according to nature and target group of the newspaper.
Second homework (groupwork): Reformulating given texts accroding to the core of the news.
Third homework (individual): Finding and formulating valuable topic for news.
Forth homework (individual): Finding valuable topic for news, it is suggested to use database and document register (gives 5 bonus points).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students know different journalistic terms and knows how to use them in practice.
Students know different journalism genres and how to distinguish them; knows main principles of construction of the texts.
Students are able to see structural problems of newsstories and is capable of giving solutions to them.
Students are able to work with written sources.
Student knows easier techniques of working as reporter.
Student is able to do easier media text discourse analysis.
