Course aims
The objective of the course is to support the development of student's preparedness in understanding and applying product design principles in the planning of practical work in vocational training.
Brief description of the course
The situation of product development in Estonian industry. Product development as a uniting system of marketing, product design and production. Stages of product development. Innovation, creativity, environmental sustainability, problem-solving and finding innovative solutions in product development. Assessment of results and selection in product development. Product price and price policy. Product development project. Quality in product development. Sample project of product development.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- analyses the possibilities of product development based on the study programme of their speciality studies;
- designs a practical task based on their specialty in vocational training that is in accordance with the principles of the product development process;
- analyses the creativity, innovation, environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness of the designed production project;
- uses mathematical models, formulas, schemes and technological instruments in developing the production project.
