Course aims
The objective of the course is to create opportunities for the development of knowledge and skills in planning, conducting and integrating service learning into professional studies. Completion of the course will create preconditions for the student to use service competences in professional work and cooperation networks.
Brief description of the course
Teaching is carried out through lectures, seminars and independent work.
Topics: Service-related qualification requirements in professional standards. Service learning in personal service curricula and other service-sector curricula. Planning service learning in accordance with curricula. Service-related didactic links in a curriculum. Integrating knowledge and skills into service learning. Theory and practice in service learning. Suitable learning environment for service learning. Didactic strategies in service learning (case studies, problem solving, projects etc.). Learning resources in service learning. Choice of student-centred service learning methodology, including active learning and its implementation in service learning. Evaluation, including formative assessment, in service learning. Social context of service learning, emotional mindset and breaking out of the comfort zone in service learning. Integrating customer service learning with specialisation studies in vocational training.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of the qualification requirements in the field of customer service on the labour market on the basis of professional standards of personal service;
- has an overview of the content and learning outcomes of teaching service learning, and of the possibilities of integrating specialisation modules in teaching curricula;
- analyses the didactic links of service based on compulsory literature;
- plans service learning training by integrating it into the specialisation modules of the field;
- analyses their own designed teaching methodology on the basis of the didactic system model;
- maps service learning teaching resources on the basis of the field of teaching, purposes of service learning and characteristics of students.
