Course aims

To create opportunities:
● to analyse the main elements and characteristics of educational systems from comparative perspective;
● to understand the contextual factors of educational policies and reforms and what is the effect of these on different levels of the educational system;
● to analyse the policy development process and its characteristics in relation to current issues in educational policy in home country;
● to understand own role and opportunities as a leader or future educator for shaping and implementing education policy at different levels of the educational system.

Brief description of the course

Educational policy and system on a national and international level (comparative perspective). Different levels of governance of education systems and their challenges. Shaping educational policy, reforms, practices and their implications. Exploring the characteristics of educational reforms and their impact on an institutional level and on leaders work.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to critically analyse and compare the main elements and characteristics of different educational systems;
- understands contextual factors of educational policies/reforms and the effect of these on different levels of the educational system;
- understands and is able to analyse the policy development process and its characteristics relation to current issues in educational policy in their home country;
- understands their own role and opportunities implementing education policy as an educational leader at different levels of the educational system.
