Course aims
The student obtains knowledge of teaching mathematics at the 2nd school level, becomes familiar with the subject's content and different methodological ways of teaching, obtains knowledge of setting goals in teaching mathematics, forms an ability to plan study activity. Uses evolving digital technology, finds and retains necessary information with the help of digital aids.
Brief description of the course
Focuses in mathematics at the 2nd school level. Subject content. Important topics in grades 4-6. Developing thinking in maths lessons. Problem solving and word problems. Measuring, units of measurement and geometrical shapes. Calculation: natural numbers up to one million and over: comparison, rounding, place value, four main operations. Data and algebra: numerical expression, word expression. Fractions. Organisation of studies, creating and keeping students interested in studies, taking into account individual peculiarities. Structure, analysis and creation of a lesson plan.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the logic of the structure of the mathematical learning process at the 2nd level of school;
- is able to critically assess the content of study literature and tie it in to the study process;
- understands the importance of a lesson plan in preparing studies;
- is able to plan a maths lesson, creates a lesson plan, takes into account students' individual peculiarities, applies motivating teaching methods;
- knows how and why to use illustrative study aids in lessons, knows how to prepare them.
