Course aims
The course forms part of the elective subjects in the curriculum of class teacher. Its aim is to provide the knowledge and skills for achieving competence in teaching music to grades 1-3. To create a full vision of teaching music at the first level of school.
Brief description of the course
Music as an educational phenomenon. The possibilities of music in developing abilities and forming a personality. The priorities of the curriculum and the role of musical education in the education system. Aims and tasks of musical education at the first level of school.
Pedagogical-psychological basis of musical education. Age-related peculiarities of musical development. The structure of musicality and ways of developing musical abilities. Pedagogical methods of musical education. Playing as a pedagogical method.
Types of musical activity and practical possibilities for making music (listening to music, singing, playing an instrument, musical-rhythmic movement, creativity).
Listening to music as a basis of musical education. Pedagogical aspects of listening to music and the methodology of teaching. Activating methods of listening to music.
Singing together as a social-cultural process. The role of the song repertoire in the process of value education. Methodology and methods of teaching a song.
Forming and shaping a singing voice. Differentiated work with pupils who are lagging behind in musical development. Acquisition of a recommended song repertoire.
The methodical basis of teaching an instrument (the Orff Approach). Creating and performing an accompaniment on body percussion and music instruments.
Musical-rhythmic movement for developing musical activity. Dance, song game, circle game, musical game.
Methods of acquiring musical literacy. Methodology of relative note learning (Zoltán Kodály) and ways of applying it.
Music lesson as the main form of musical education. Types and structure of a music lesson. Content of a music lesson and its coherence. Integrating music with other subjects.
Role of the music teacher in the process of musical education. The professional skills of a music teacher Complex work with the music textbook, work book and music choice on CDs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to create lesson plans and carry them out creatively in music classes;
- is familiar with and is able to choose an appropriate song repertoire and is able to teach it through different methods;
- creates rhythmic and melodic ostinato accompaniments and is able to perform them on different instruments;
- is fluent in ways of using body percussion, rhythmic and melodic instruments; is able to play accompaniment takes on a small zither and simple melodies on a recorder;
- is able to analyse musical compositions and is fluent in the methodology of listening to music;
- is familiar with and can teach circle games and song games;
- is fluent in the techniques of the relative note-teaching methodology and is able to apply them in the teaching process;
- is able to work with music-related and methodical study literature (music text book, workbook, a selection of music on CDs).
