Course aims
To create opportunities:
- for the acquisition of systematic knowledge about speech and language difficulties and their relation to reading difficulties and dyslexia,
- for the acquisition of knowledge about the nature of reading difficulties and dyslexia,
- for the acquisition of supportive learning strategies for working with a child with reading difficulties and dyslexia.
Brief description of the course
Different approaches to reading difficulties and dyslexia and contemporary standpoints. Different levels of support for a student with reading difficulties and dyslexia: learning reading according to the disorder, adaptation of learning, approach of the whole school, opportunities of the parents and the home. Networks and their creation in supporting a student with reading difficulties.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to draw connections between speech and language disorders and reading difficulties;
- is able to assess the occurrence of difficulties and the related risk in specific students;
- is able to choose and apply appropriate intervention techniques;
- understands the importance of cooperation and is able to initiate and participate in a cooperation process.
