Course aims
Forming an attitude that values humanistic world view through the reflection on the development of cultural classifications of disabilities. Forming readiness to understand and reflect about the problems and diagnoses of people with special needs; appropriate formulation of the problems; humanist treatment in professional activity; conscious avoidance of negative possibilities for stigmatisations.
Brief description of the course
The subject treats the parallel development of historic-philosophical mindset and the bases of defining different disabilities according to the development of medical science and society. Contemporary definition of disabilities and deviations is provided and the need for social model in education is stressed casting aside the disability based model.

The skill to interpret the characteristics of different paradigms in the historical framework;
The skill to compare the paradigmatic differences of classifications;
The ability to express one's individual opinions in a case analysis;
The skill of working with different professional sources of information and analyse the pertinent information.
