Course aims

To give an overview of special educational needs and give primary skills in recognition and definition of SEN. To give knowledge and skills in organisation of individual support for students with special needs.

Brief description of the course

Identification, assessment and support in SEN. Introduction to the categories of special needs: students with learning difficulties, with intellectual disabilities, with speech disorders and with behaviour problems. Other cultural background as special needs, extraordinary abilities as special needs. Application of educational programmes, incl. Individual learning plans for students with special needs.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about the basics on classifying special needs and about different classifications;
- is able to apply the means of research and determine and assess the type and the degree of special needs in concrete cases;
- orients in the documentation related to special needs and are able to assess these critically;
- has overview of intervention possibilities.
