Course aims
To introduce the necessary principals of archival practice and activities, including arrangement, record keeping, long-term preservation and access to documents using either traditional or new, digital technologies.
Brief description of the course
The theoretical aspect considers the basics of the arrangement of documents and archives as an integrated set of documents. All kinds of aspects of preservation strategies and guidelines, archival processing and management are discussed. An introduction to the main use of systems of rules as the basics for work with archival documents. The history of archives and their management considers the overview of different stages of development and classification. Besides Estonian archives, the Nordic, Western European and North American analogues are discussed.
