Course aims
Enable the students to gain knowledge about the phenomenons and texts that have shaped the history of Middle-Eastern culture.
Brief description of the course
The course focuses on the following topics - Semitic peoples and languages; history of Turkic and Turkish languages; Arabic, Persian and Turkish culture in Islamic context; Turkish culture in Ottoman empire till Turkish Republic. At the same time seminars on the aforementioned topics will be held. The students have to read examples of Middle-Eastern literatures or secondary texts about Middle-Eastern culture. The thematic focus may change each year according to the preferences of the lecturer.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about the main topics discussed during the course;
- has practical skills to independently analyze literary texts of Middle-Eastern origin according to the information given during the course;
- has ability to employ acquired knowledge in writing independently studies on the given topics and is able to attending further lectures about the field.
