Course aims
Improvement of ability and skill in academic reading, writing, and analysis. Introduction of various approaches in cultural theory by reading texts of classical authors in cultural analysis.
Brief description of the course
During the course, students become familiarized with classical authors in cultural theory, and their texts. In
each seminar, one or two topics and texts will be analysed. Students will study a selection of approaches, points of view and academic styles of expression in
cultural theories by reading original texts, making presentations and participation in seminar discussions, in which theoretical material in texts will be related to a few case examples of everyday culture.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands main topics of the classical authors discussed and the main characteristics of their approaches;
- is able to relate those main characteristics with various approaches to cultural theories within their broader contexts;
- has base-level knowledge of how to critically analyse classical texts in cultural theory and relate their topics with everyday cultural phenomena;
- is able to discuss on topic related to culture and cultural theories.
