Course aims
To familiarize students with the main concepts, authors and theories of aesthetics.
To encourage student‘s ability to analyse aesthetic phenomena and to raise critical questions (in everyday life, art, etc.).
To develop student's skills in reading and analysing texts from aesthetic point of view.
Brief description of the course
Aesthetics as a discipline examines perception, aesthetic experience and aesthetic properties both in everyday life and in arts.
The course of aesthetics mainly concentrates on aesthetics of art, everyday aesthetics and environmental aesthetics.
Texts from ancient Greece to the present will be examined.
The emergence and transformations of the concept of aesthetics will also be examined.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the main periods, schools, and authors of aesthetics;
- is familiar with basic theories and concepts of aesthetics and is able to use them in order to analyze certain aesthetic phenomena;
- is able to analyze texts and assess their meaning and importance from aesthetic point of view;
- is able to see conations between the concepts and theories of aesthetics and other branches of philosophy, and eventually other humanities.
