Course aims

Different reading models for the study of linguistics and literature will be demostrated. We will focus on the influences of cultural knowledge on reading.
Reading models will be applied to literary texts.

Brief description of the course

What happens when we read? The content of literature and its effect, functions of literary texts, different methodological approaches to literature. Literature studies and its methodological tools. Literature as a part of cultural memory; literature and other fine arts. The literariness of language shown through phraseology.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is aware of different reading models for literary texts and demonstrate ability to analyse.
