Course aims
Overview of business German and German language in journalistic texts, expansion of vocabulary, knowledge of journalistic types and genres, business letter conventions.
Brief description of the course
The purpose of this course is to acquaint you with concepts and functions of German-language newspapers and other media as well as busniss texts. We will explore the underlying principles of newspapers, relationships among journalists and other social institutions and values, and current issues and problems that work in the mass media industry. Oral and written exercises.
Independent work
Individual work involves fulfilling home assignments, homereading, work with dictionaries, preparation for individual and group presentations both in oral and written form.
Learning outcomes in the course
Ability to compose and analyze official documents (especially business letters) and journalistic texts in German.
Knowledge of basic vocabulary in the area.
