Brief description of the course
The course examines the specific characteristics, analysis, creation, and reception of verbal and audiovisual works of art. Students explore major trends and significant works in contemporary Spanish-language cultures (Spain and Latin America) of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. They practise investigating selected themes or works across different media, such as literature, feature films, theatre, painting, comics, video games, and translation. The course also fosters creativity, collaboration, and the ability to express ideas using discipline-specific language. Active participation, prior knowledge of history and earlier literature, text-reading skills, independent work, and conscious planning of one's learning process support the achievement of the intended results.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- independently investigates the adaptation of a literary or audiovisual work into another genre or medium;
- describes the context of a work's production and reception;
- presents and describes Spanish-language literary works orally, using appropriate subject-specific vocabulary;
- applies knowledge creatively in an interdisciplinary project (for example, adapting a painting into a poem, transforming a work into a manifesto, image, or podcast);
- provides constructive feedback on peers' work.
