Course aims
Students are introduced to grammatical aspects which cause difficulties for EFL learners.The course focuses on the main techniques of teaching grammar relying on the theoretical principles of foreign language acquisition and learning. The role of grammar in communicative language teaching and language learning /teaching as discursive practice are examined. During the course, students perform practical tasks, study the types and causes of language errors (error analysis), and create study materials with a particular focus on learning grammar.
Brief description of the course
English grammar and structures in the context of language teaching and acquisition. Grammar and communicative language learning. Coursebooks analysis, creating grammar exercises, sequence of grammar lessons, and comparing languages.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has insights into the main approaches of teaching English grammar;
- should be able to use and teach a range of complex structures of English;
- can analyse and create study materials and correct EFL students' mistakes.
