Course aims
Familiarise students with the principles of public speaking, the main organisational guidelines of a public speech, its linguistic and pragmatic peculiarities. The course is conducted in the English language.
Brief description of the course
The course will focus on the main principles of public speaking: choosing the topic, shaping the message, communicating with the audience, outlining the speech, using visuals and delivering the speech. Course participant will have the opportunity to make different kinds of presentations. As independent work, the students will have to analyse and evaluate other students’ presentations, prepare group and individual presentations.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Course participants will have a theoretical overview of the principles of preparing for a public presentation, the problems relating to it and ways of overcoming them. The students will have the skills of making presentations for varying purposes and delivering them.
Both team work and individual presentations will be evaluated separately. The final grade will be a combination of continuous assessment (50%) and final presentation and evaluations (50%).
