Course aims
To give an overview of the history and development of Native American and Canadian literature.
Brief description of the course
History of indigenous literature in the USA and Canada. The development of native prose (mostly novels, short stories, and autobiography) and, to a lesser extent, poetry and drama. The historical, social, political, and philosophical background of native writings. Examination of selected texts using principles of postmodernist, feminist, and postcolonial criticism.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Students are aware of major authors, texts, and trends in Native American writing.
