Brief description of the course
The course develops spoken communication skills for academic contexts and integrates them with reading, listening, and writing. It consolidates C1-level proficiency and focuses on language related to university contexts, including teaching and learning, academic responsibilities, student interactions, the role of universities in society, inter-university relations, and higher education in English-speaking countries.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- describes and compares academic practices in English-speaking countries and in Estonia, using appropriate disciplinary terminology;
- analyses thematic articles critically, identifying main and secondary issues and relating them to personal experience;
- prepares and delivers individual and group presentations using digital tools and accurate language;
- demonstrates expanded vocabulary, increased command of thematic content, and improved accuracy and fluency;
- reflects on learning needs and plans further development accordingly.
