Course aims

To offer a systematic overview of the stylistic peculiarities in the English language at the phonetic, morphological, lexical, and syntactic levels.

Brief description of the course

The notion of stylistics, rhetoric, and style. History of stylistics. Connotation. Stylistic morphology. Phonetic, graphic, lexical, and syntactic devices and expressive means. Stylistic layers of vocabulary. Text and rhythm. Register.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Students are able to evaluate the effectiveness and originality of expressive language usage.
Students can recognize different stylistic devices and explain their function in the text.
