Course aims
To create the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of Estonian culture, to examine Estonian cultural landscape and to give basic knowledge of Estonian language.
Brief description of the course
During the course Estonian culture will be introduced through different aspects in history, traditions and more renown individuals, focusing on Estonian film, photography, art and music. Different Estonian museums (Film Museum, Arvo Pärt Center and the History Museum) and Tallinn Old Town will be visited to understand the more important cultural and historical events. Basic level of Estonian grammar and vocabulary will also be taught.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- orientates in the Estonian cultural space;
- understands the underlying cultural processes;
- is able to use more simple Estonian language vocabulary to describe Estonian culture;
- can handle everyday language situations.
