Course aims
To provide a systematic overview of Estonian syntax.
Brief description of the course
Syntax and sentence. The relationship between semantics and syntax. Structure of simple sentences. Sentence patterns, verb valency. Phrases, their types, structure and syntactic functions. Syntactic relationships. Compound sentences: parataxis, hypotaxis. Direct and indirect speech. Sentence abbreviation. Nominalisation. Text grammar: context and sentence structure. Ways of word formation.
