Course aims

To familiarise students with the basic principles of educational science, to research the main concepts of scientific work and the logic of scientific thinking. To develop a readiness and provide primary skills for the compiling scientific research.

Brief description of the course

The concept of science. Scientific knowledge and the characteristics of science. Scientific knowledge and the characteristic features of science. The portrait of a scientist. The teacher as a researcher. Requirements with regard to research methods. Examples regarding different research methods and their utilisation. The ethics of research. The course of research. The selection of subject matter. Information search. Oriented reading and the compilation of an overview regarding academic literature. The problem and problem-setting. Hypothesis. Collection of data. Compilation of a questionnaire. The processing and analysis of the questionnaire results. Report on the research. Humanitarian and natural science paradigms. Quantitative and qualitative research methods. Collection and the analysis of data in qualitative research.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Kujuneb täiendav valmidus teadustöö tegemiseks. Omandatakse täiendavad teadmised orienteerumiseks teadustöö põhimõistetes. Kujunevad täiendavad praktilised oskused, mis seonduvad kvantitatiivse ja kvalitatiivse uurimistöö kavandamise ja läbiviimise erinevate etappidega.
