Course aims
To enabale a general understanding of Finnish-Estonian cultural and literary relations from the 19th century until today; to relate the relations to different historical periods and social context; to intoduce the reception of Finnish literature in Estonia and Estonian literature in Finland; to enable skills of applying acquired knowledge for teaching Finnish and for research.
Brief description of the course
Multifaceted approach to the history, developmnet and present of Finnish-Estonian cultural and literary relations; an overview on translating Finnish literature into Estonian and Estonian literature into Finnish; introducing founding and activities of Tuglas Seura; participating in the lectures organized by the Finnish Institute in Estonia.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the history of of Finnish-Estonian cultural and literary relations from the 19th century until today, reception of Finnish literature in Estonia and Estonian literature in Finland;
- knows similarity and difference of Estonian and Finnish culture and literature;
- has skills of relating Finnish-Estonian cultural relations to different historical periods and social context;
- has skills of applying acquired knowledge for teaching Finnish and in research.
