Course aims

To develop reading and writing skills, expand vocabulary, improve oral and written proficiency, and refine grammar. To establish the foundations for language competence in written and spoken Finnish at the C1.1 level, as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Brief description of the course

To deepen the learner’s knowledge of the underlying structures of the language. To develop the learner’s language proficiency to a level that enables the comprehension of complex texts, the delivery of detailed presentations and arguments, and to establish the foundations for attaining linguistic competences at the C1.1 level, as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- communicates fluently and spontaneously in Finnish, without undue searching for expressions;
- writes grammatically correct texts in Finnish, employing a broad vocabulary and constructions characteristic of standard written language;
- understands and is able to analyze extensive and complex texts;
- understands and can retell authentic spoken texts (e.g., dialogues, radio programs, television news, etc.).
