Course aims
Core subject of Estonian philology (bachelor studies). The objective of the course is to provide a systemised and contemporary overview of Estonian literature 1920-1950, to develop students skills for working individually with fictional and literary texts from different periods, to provide an experience in individually analysing certain fictional and literary texts, to prepare students for listening to more specific lectures on literature and for participation in seminars addressing more specific aspects of literary studies, to provide primary prerequisites for effective performance on the labour market.
Brief description of the course
Principal issues of Estonian literature 1920-1950: periodical division, eastern, Western and internal exile, closeness to life, intelligence and power, writers, sociology, aesthetic attitudes in forms of realism and modernism. An analysis decade by decade: literary life, poetry, prose, drama, essays.
