Course aims
The course aims to enhance the comprehensive language skills of students who have upper intermediate level of Mandarin Chinese language and to further develop students’ proficiency in speaking and writing for social, academic and professional purposes.
Brief description of the course
This is an advanced Chinese language course designed for students who have passed B2 exam or have acquired equivalent language ability. It aims to develop students’ advanced skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing by helping them to grasp complex grammar and increase vocabulary extensively through discussions of an array of topics concerning society, culture, economy and politics of today’s China in global contexts.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- uses a broad range of vocabulary and appropriate expressions to participate in semi-formal discussions on socio-cultural topics and to express and justify their viewpoints;
- communicates orally with fluency and purpose in different communicative situations, adapting vocabulary, expressions and language use to the context of semi-formal communication;
- develops and presents extended, structured viewpoints and arguments, linking ideas logically and supporting their viewpoints with reasons.
