Course aims

The goal of the course is to give to the students an understanding of the reasons why in the contemporary world is developing the discussion about the responsibility of business enterprises to guarantee human rights. The course also covers applicable standards and regional approaches.

Brief description of the course

The course will cover the following areas in connection with human rights and business:
- The doctrine of responsibility business enterprises for securing human rights;
- The main positive and soft law instruments;
- The main stakeholders;
- Regional peculiarities and the courts practice.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the reasons for the responsibility of business enterprises for protecting human rights;
- knows the main applicable legal instruments and can apply these to individual cases;
- understands the reasons for regional differences.
