Course aims
To give students a practical opportunity to develop skills in both written and oral legal argumentation. In addition, the students will learn how to anal analyse the strength of various legal arguments and how to pick the strongest of them. An important goal is also the strengthening of the students’ oral advocacy and public speaking skills.
Brief description of the course
Teams of students will prepare arguments based on a hypothetical case. Teams must submit a written memorial (i.e. pleadings) for the side they are representing. The moot problem will present complex and current puzzles in international law that competitors are required to resolve. The course will give students an opportunity to learn through a hands-on, collaborative project, giving them insights into various aspects of international law that they would not deal with in such detail in any other course. The students will also learn to rebut opposing arguments and answer questions in an authoritative manner.
