Course aims
- to give the students an overview of the theoretical bases for the creation and functioning of international organisations;
- to introduce the main international organisations;
- to analyse theoretical and practical problems regarding international organisations;
- to provide an overview of the main mechanisms of solving international disputes – both legal and diplomatic
- to analyse problems that arise in the settlement of disputes
Brief description of the course
The course will cover the nature, structure and international relations of the main international organisations (from an economic and political point of view). There will be discussions in seminars and lectures about the various practical and theoretical problems that arise in connection with international organisations. The different mechanisms for dispute settlement will be looked at and solutions found for the problems that arise in the dispute settlement process.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows and understands the theoretical bases of the activity of international organisations;
- has knowledge about the main international organisations;
- understands the functioning of organisations, the legal bases for their creation, their aims, means and policies;
- understands the main mechanisms for dispute settlement and their respective weaknesses and strengths.
