Course aims
Overview of history as academic discipline, its main problems and methods. Issues dealt include: What is history? What does it mean to learn history? Who is historian? Is history science or art? etc.
Brief description of the course
What is history ? Sources in history. Supporting disciplines in history. History as social science, as a part of humanities. Methods of history-writing, its past and present. Main problems of history-writing. Its present state all over the world. Writing history in Estonia.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Student is able to:
1. Analyse issues related to the historical science
2. Orientates in the historiography
3. Knows the development of historical science, understand the main terminology and orientates in the philosophical issues of the topic
