Brief description of the course
Old-Livonia was a quasi-colonial entry that came into being in the processe of crusading movement. On of its pecularities is openness to social processes that took place in Germany. On one hand genesis of Old-Livonia can be qualified as a part of the german movement to the East. At the same time the similarities of the local development with Germany are over emphasised because the backbone of the understanding of the entry was built by the Baltic-German historians. More balanced understanding of Old-Livonia in the frame-work of the modern interdisciplinary research-work has changed the understanding of the entry.
